Its R&D&I division is called Atos Research& Innovation (ARI) (http://www.atosresearch.eu/). It is the R&D hub of the company and a key reference for the whole Atos group. The GEO lab, within the Environment Sector in ARI, has focused its activity on the design and implementation of information architectures, oriented towards the seamless geospatial data distribution and execution of distributed geospatial processes to improve the Natural Risk Management. To achieve the interoperability between systems, data repositories and applications currently used by the civil protection and other operational bodies, the GEO lab has developed (since 1999) several consultancy and research projects dealing with the use of the current geographical information standards and linked in many cases with the European Policy Initiatives in this field (INSPIRE).
Some R&D projects that have allowed the group to develop its technical expertise are the ongoing projects: SOA4ALL (FP7-IP), NEXOF-RA (FP7-IP), COIN (FP7-IP), NeOn (FP6-IP), IntelLEO (STREP-FP7), TAO (STREP-FP6), and the recently finished projects: SeCSE (IPFP6), LUISA (FP6-STREP), INFRAWEBS (FP6-STREP) and NESSI-SOFT (FP6-SSA), among others. This research unit complements the aforementioned areas of expertise through the implementation of Spanish R&D projects (some examples are PLATA, GODO and COMPOSETOUR).
