Its R&D&I division is called Atos Research& Innovation (ARI) (http://www.atosresearch.eu/). It is the R&D hub of the company and a key reference for the whole Atos group. Thanks to its large expertise in the R&D&I scope, ARI leverages research activities on new technologies inside and outside Atos group and takes the research outcomes to customers, introducing innovative elements in their business processes.

ARI is located in five cities: Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valladolid and since November 2010 in Istanbul. ARI is a founding member of the European Technology Platform NESSI (Networked European Software and Services Initiative), and is a member of eSafety Forum, eMobility, ARTEMIS, NEM, EOS and Nanomedicine. Atos Spain s.a. (ATOS) is the Spanish branch of Atos, and is the institution to which Atos Research & Innovation belongs to.

The GEO lab, within the Environment Sector in ARI, has focused its activity on the design and implementation of information architectures, oriented towards the seamless geospatial data distribution and execution of distributed geospatial processes to improve the Natural Risk Management. To achieve the interoperability between systems, data repositories and applications currently used by the civil protection and other operational bodies, the GEO lab has developed (since 1999) several consultancy and research projects dealing with the use of the current geographical information standards and linked in many cases with the European Policy Initiatives in this field (INSPIRE).

Relevant experience

Some R&D projects that have allowed the group to develop its technical expertise are the ongoing projects: SOA4ALL (FP7-IP), NEXOF-RA (FP7-IP), COIN (FP7-IP), NeOn (FP6-IP), IntelLEO (STREP-FP7), TAO (STREP-FP6), and the recently finished projects: SeCSE (IPFP6), LUISA (FP6-STREP), INFRAWEBS (FP6-STREP) and NESSI-SOFT (FP6-SSA), among others. This research unit complements the aforementioned areas of expertise through the implementation of Spanish R&D projects (some examples are PLATA, GODO and COMPOSETOUR).

Role in the consortium

ATOS will be TaToo key expert on all semantic related issues and implementations. ATOS qualified by their manifold experience and proven knowledge by many projects in this domain. The will concentrate on the implementation of Discovery Tools and the semantic frame work. Further more ATOS as a major industrial partner of the consortium will lead:
